Because We Never Stop Learning...

Assemble everything you need before you change the diaper. Once you begin to change the baby, do not lose sight, even for a second. Babies wiggle and move. They can get hurt or fall in an instant.

When changing a diaper:

* It is best to wash your hands first. Also be sure to wash your hands with soap and water after changing a diaper.

* Place your baby on a clean surface. When leaving the house, make sure to bring a blanket or a mat for changing diapers.

* Remove the soiled diaper.

* Use a soft cloth, dampened with clean, warm water. Clean the body part that the diaper covers. Wipe from front to back to avoid infection.

* Each time you change the diaper, clean up what remains of the baby's umbilical cord. Do it with a cotton swab dipped in rubbing alcohol. Squeeze the cotton so that it is almost dry.

Carefully remove the sticky substance around the cord where it touches the baby's belly. The cord will fall off by itself in 5 to 10 days. The baby may cry when you touch the cord with wet cotton swab. Do this gently. If the baby cries when you touch the cord at other times, consult your doctor. Call your doctor also if the skin around the cord becomes red.

* Now, put a clean diaper baby. If you use safety pins, make sure to put your hand between the pin and baby's skin. The diaper should not cover the umbilical cord.

Newborns use about 10 diapers a day. Change them in the wet or soiled. This avoids giving them a rash. Please where to put dirty diapers and wipes.
